Want to launch a website quickly without spending a fortune on design and coding? Then AI website creation is your best friend.

We tested three AI website builders to see how easy, fast, and truly designer-free they are. Our contenders are Unicorn Platform, Framer, and Dora.

Testing Methodology

We built the same landing page for a designer chair brand across all three AI landing page builders, using the same prompt:
A landing page for a modern designer chair brand
naturalistic rendering, big images of chairs, minimalistic, light white and light gray, Scandinavian style, flatness of surface, peach fuzz and grey
Place your bets – who's going to win this design-off?

Unicorn Platform: Simple and straightforward

Unicorn Platform is one of the best AI website builders for quickly launching a landing page. Even on a free plan, you can publish up to 10 pages. Sure, you won't get a free custom domain, but you can add your code.
Right after signing up, you can pick a template from a library of pages sorted by category, which is handy if you're not a prompt-writing pro. Plus, it lets you use design patterns common in specific industries.
AI for website prototyping is well-implemented: it took us 3 minutes to generate a 15-block page. Prompt understanding is still a bit hit-or-miss. Sometimes it nailed it, other times it came up with some strange ideas.
Minimalism and gray color are there, but the content needs some tweaking.
Unicorn platform lets you edit the result block by block. It feels and looks like a typical website builder like Tilda or Squarespace. The editing process is intuitive, letting users easily change the design and structure even without design knowledge.
You can even swap out a block for one from the library or delete it altogether.
There's no option to create a fully custom block, the kind designers usually go for to avoid being limited by pre-made solutions. But you can enhance a block with AI.

Unicorn Platform AI isn't just a designer, it's a copywriter too. You can rewrite texts, change the tone of voice, fix grammar and punctuation, translate into multiple languages, and shorten or lengthen the text. You can even roll the dice with the "randomize" option, letting AI rewrite the text based on your prompt. Spoiler alert: Unicorn Platform is the best website builder with AI text editor among the builders we tested.
Besides block settings, there are also general site settings. You can adjust global styles: color scheme, fonts, font size and weight, buttons, inputs, shadows, cards, spacing, and more. And all of it with visual previews for those who are design-challenged but keen to play with shapes and formats.
There's also an automatic responsive design for different devices. Works pretty well, eg. text doesn't overlap images, and the spacing between blocks is preserved.
But you can't manually adjust responsiveness, even on the paid plan. You can only hide blocks on certain screen sizes. That's the only significant downside we found.

Unicorn Platform supports integration with popular services like HubSpot and Mailchimp for added functionality. You can also export the generated site's HTML code to move it to other platforms, but that's a paid feature.

What we liked

  • Fast website creation without coding – a 15-block page in 3 minutes.
  • AI copywriting tools – built-in AI rewrites text, adjusts the tone of voice and even translates text into multiple languages.
  • AI website builder with automatic responsive design – adapts seamlessly to mobile devices.
  • Flexibility – edit blocks, adjust styles, and integrate with HubSpot and Mailchimp.

What we didn’t like

  • AI doesn’t always interpret prompts accurately.
  • No manual control over responsiveness.

Verdict

Unicorn Platform is a solid tool for those who want to quickly build a website with AI. It lets you create a landing page quickly and cheaply for basic functions, like collecting contacts after a conference.

Don't expect a unique design, but there's a good selection of blocks. And the limited editing options prevent you from breaking a perfectly good solution. All while still leaving room for creativity with the code block.

Overall, Unicorn Platform is a great AI website builder for small businesses. Perfect for those who need to create a simple site, MVP, or landing page without deep web design knowledge.

Framer: The Best for Designers

Framer promises us the future of design and offers to enhance your website with advanced AI. They focus on content localization and optimization, and maintaining brand voice. But we're here for AI website design generation first and foremost.
After a few minutes of playing with prompts, Framer delivered three ready-made pages that didn't quite hit the mark. Framer didn't get "peach fuzz," so the folks at Pantone wouldn't be pleased. We had to fix the style, but the blocks were solid, even if they didn't 100% match the prompt.
The interface is similar to Figma. It lets you easily change design elements, edit individual components, and adjust styles. However, it'll only be easy if you're already familiar with similar graphics editors. Newbies will have to figure out the functionality first.

For those in a hurry, there's a component library with ready-made blocks that are customizable. The blocks are already responsive, speeding up development. Framer's AI generates three resolutions (desktop, phone, tablet) and lets you set your breakpoints. The responsive designs are excellent. A definite thumbs up!
Framer's marketing team wasn't lying about rewriting texts to match the brand’s tone of voice. But there's no translation in the free version, and we didn't test the paid one.
A bonus is the automatic creation of dark and light themes. But to make it work, you'll need to create color variables for dark theme settings. Designers will manage, but who knows about non-professionals?

What we liked

  • AI website builder with Figma-inspired design panel – great for designers.
  • Automatic responsiveness – generates layouts in three resolutions (desktop, tablet, mobile).
  • AI website builder to create dark and light themes – easily switch between themes.

What we didn’t like

  • Doesn’t always capture the exact design style from the prompt.
  • Can be tricky for beginners to navigate.

Verdict

Framer AI website builder offers powerful design tools and creative freedom but requires some experience with Figma.

Framer lets you create more complex and unique layouts, but the catch is that businesses will still need a designer to quickly build a site or landing page. It is the best AI website builder for designers looking for flexibility and control.

Framer is ideal for AI website prototyping and quickly generating design variations.

Dora: Worth the $18?

Dora promises that a single prompt is all that separates users from a website design without a designer beyond their wildest dreams.

To Dora's credit, it did understand the prompt better than the other AI designers we tested. It got the colors right, the minimalistic look and feel, and even a decent rendering of the chairs. Just don't look too closely at the details.
Dora creates several design options based on the prompt. You can pick a design and refine the details in the interface, which will be familiar to those who've played with fonts in Figma.
There's a library of ready-made blocks and automatic responsive designs. However, the latter has issues. In the mobile version, text blocks overlap images, making some information unreadable. Professional frontenders will need to fix it. Framer and Unicorn Platform handled the same task perfectly, and they didn't ask for $18 for a paid plan.
Dora generates images and text but doesn't let you replace them with your content for free. But it does it for a fee.
There's a Product Tour for design newbies. But it won't help much with block customization, as the settings have technical terms like vh and constraints, and block sizes are in percentages. Regular users won't figure it out without Googling and will probably break something.
Basic tools for SEO and traffic analysis are there, like everywhere else. HubSpot and Mailchimp integrations are also available.

What we liked

  • AI website builder for generating design ideas – multiple layout options to choose from.
  • Good prompt interpretation – captured the intended style better than the others.
  • Figma-inspired design panel – great for designers.

What we didn’t like

  • AI website builder for not-so-quick website launches – mobile responsiveness needs fixing – text sometimes overlaps images.
  • Paid features – can’t upload custom images or text without a $18 subscription.

Verdict

If you're a business owner looking to generate everything and then hand it off to designers for refinement, Dora's a great option to speed up the process. It's good at generating images, text, and layouts. But all of them need polishing.

Dora's perfect for generating ideas and prototypes. You can create a page for free, take a look, and add it to your mood board. Want more? Sign up for a paid plan. Hence, Dora definitely lands last in our ranking.

The results

AI promised us a design revolution, hinting at layoffs for the entire UX/UI department. Turns out, you still need UX/UI designers to refine AI-generated designs.

None of the tools could fully replace a professional designer. All of the websites we got from AI builders need tweaking and adjustments. However, each service has its strengths:
  • Unicorn Platform: Perfect for easy website design for beginners.
  • Framer: Suitable for designers who want to speed up prototyping and experiment with different styles.
  • Dora: Good for generating ideas and creating basic layouts, if you're willing to pay.
Undoubtedly, AI tools for website prototyping are useful and can significantly speed up website creation. But for high-quality and truly unique designs, you still need to turn to professionals.

At Aspirity Solutions you can find a a truly professional designer to solve all of your design problems.
